There have been innovative surveys and researches on efficient scheduling of computationally intensive and latency sensitive mobile tasks from smart devices onto cloud and edge environments. These surveys are geared towards improving the performance of these tasks. However a very insignificant attention has been paid to the review of criticality-based separation which exists among the latency sensitive tasks; some latency sensitive are non-critical (LSNCTs) while some are critical (LSCTs). This trivial attention is insensitive as it could consequently constitute an undue increase in service times of the LSCTs, lead to critical application failure and possibly loss of lives. Therefore, this paper presents a review on A Criticality-aware Task Scheduling and Offloading Optimization Model for Mobile Edge-cloud Bound Tasks. The review leveraged 69 papers and 42 of them are the related works. Eighteen (18) out of the 42 reviewed studies are from 2022 to 2026, the related papers’ years spanned through 2002 to 2026 with Journal articles having 90% of the reviewed papers and mostly from IEEE Xplore database. This statistics is significant and of benefit as it establishes the historical depth, reliability, academic freshness and contemporariness in the reviewed papers. The result of the paper reveals the various drawbacks associated with the existing literatures to give room for future works. In addition, it gives an insight to the advancement in the body of knowledge especially in the area of prioritizing LSCTs emanating from the smart devices such as mobile devices, Internet of Things (IoT) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).
