Abstract

his research paper scrutinizes the concept of universal health coverage (UHC), the nature, purpose and its relevance within the framework of the right to health, particularly in respect of persons suffering from non-communicable diseases in Nigeria. By relying on the objectives of the universal health coverage as a necessary fulfilment of the right to health, this paper argues that the concept of universal health coverage is still highly restricted especially within the concept of non-communicable diseases in Nigeria.  In order to situate the rights of NCD sufferers within the rights framework, the paper examines the realization of the right to health in Nigeria and it suggests critical interventions as appropriations response to NCDs.
